oooh so ive been a lazy boy the last week or so. havnt posted for a while. creative block is my excuse and being busy at work making me not want to do anything when i get home, oh and planning a wedding, what a mission that is. anyway should be back to it from today. so i looked at composition today, didn't focus on a original or interesting idea i was just looking on setting up the composition and leading the eye to a main focal point, also looking at depth and trying to get a sense of foreground, mid-ground and background. some perspective stuff in here too
im looking to improve my drawing in pencil from life so ive started a self portrait. i went out and bought a cheap easel and a board. really finding the whole process of blocking out and measuring to try and achieve a likeness very interesting. i spent about three hours blocking this out to this stage. its really difficult but im learning a lot as i go. its about life size but progress will be slow as i can only work on it at the weekends as its dark by the time i get home from work. and im using a natural light from a window at home. feel as though it looks like a younger me, need to rectify that.
yo! so im really getting frustrated with how bad i am at drawing women so im dedicating most of my study time at the moment to the female. today ive been looking at building up the face with construction lines based on the proportions of the face, looking at how each part of the face relates to the other. not concerned about tone or any of that stuff just how the patterns in the female face tie each other together. i learnt a whole lot from this small study alone. Zing!
oops i forgot to post this one on Saturday i left it in the scanner just sitting there waiting. anyway another cast study from the Fitzwilliam museum. dont ask whats going on with the eyes, proportions all over the place. my excuse is, i was rushed! but i probably just wasn't focused. would have liked to have put more time in to this one.
Alright people? good. so been slowish for a couple of days not because i havnt been doing anything arty mind you. ive been doing more reading and research. and as i hadnt drawn for a day or two ive done more over the weekend. here is some life drawing i did on friday. not the best work in the world but its all good practice ay? sorry for poor quality i had to take pictures with my phone as they were to big for my scanner.
Oh hello there! well ive missed a couple of studies over the weekend, mainly because i was working on this guy. i did a quick sketch the other day at work and i wanted to paint it. this is the progression as i was going along after crits and reworking. i was experimenting with lighting and creating a main focal point. in the end i decided to keep it simple and less fussy. removing anything that drew the eye away from the focus. the teeth!
